RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> MAY 1976 <br /> Bill Paulson , Recreation Superintendent • <br /> RED MORTON CENTER MONTHLY REPORT <br /> Murals <br /> Thirteen teens of Redwood City are currently involved in a unique project <br /> of mural painting at the Red Morton Recreation Center , 1120 Roosevelt Avenue . <br /> Murals depicting , " Reflections of Recreation " are being painted on the walls <br /> in the gym and will be unveiled to the public on Saturday , June 5 , at <br /> 11 : 30 A . M . as part of the Open House - Park Dedication festivities . <br /> Students from McKinley , St . Pius , Sequoia and Kennedy Schools are partici - <br /> pating in the project . The murals feature skateboarding , bicycling , sail - <br /> ing , baseball , volleyball and family picnicking in the park . Students <br /> involved are Donny Hom , Gundy Sartor , Francis De Bie , Tracey Munk , Lynn <br /> Klimas , Jim Lennen , Benjamin Partagena , Jim Adams , Debi Toscanelli , Karla <br /> Smith , Lisa Taylor , Kevin Padifeld , and Don Bing Bingham . <br /> The murals were selected by members of the Redwood City Civic Cultural <br /> Commission following an invitation that was sent to all the local schools <br /> inviting students to submit sketches . <br /> May 8 March of Dimes Walkathon <br /> The day was beautiful and the students were in a good mood . By 7 : 30 A . M . <br /> 400 teens were ready to walk . At 7 : 45 A . M . over 500 students started on the <br /> 20-mile walk . Some walkers were jumping , taking short cuts , singing , but <br /> all had the spirit of raising money so they could help the fight against <br /> Birth Defects . The afternoon consisted of free cokes , cookies and rock music . <br /> Many teens walked the full twenty miles . Seven hundred fifty- six marched and <br /> over $25 , 000 were pledged . Red Morton volunteers and staff helped with <br /> registration , check - in stations , and refreshments . It was a fun and reward- <br /> ing day . <br /> May 15 CPRS Teen Workshop <br /> Center Supervisor and Recreation Teen Staff attended the CPRS - sponsored Teen <br /> Workshop from 9 : 00 A . M . to 12 : 30 P . M . at Foster City . One session was on <br /> how to set up "Teen Employment Bureaus " and the second session was on how <br /> to have " Positive Relations with Teens " . Speakers were probation officers , <br /> Junior High teachers , and health services representatives . The workshop <br /> helped to make the recreation leaders more aware of how to deal with teens <br /> and understand some of their social needs . <br /> - 10- <br />
