RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT MAY 1976 Bill Paulson , Recreation Superintendent • RED MORTON CENTER MONTHLY REPORT Murals Thirteen teens of Redwood City are currently involved in a unique project of mural painting at the Red Morton Recreation Center , 1120 Roosevelt Avenue . Murals depicting , " Reflections of Recreation " are being painted on the walls in the gym and will be unveiled to the public on Saturday , June 5 , at 11 : 30 A . M . as part of the Open House - Park Dedication festivities . Students from McKinley , St . Pius , Sequoia and Kennedy Schools are partici - pating in the project . The murals feature skateboarding , bicycling , sail - ing , baseball , volleyball and family picnicking in the park . Students involved are Donny Hom , Gundy Sartor , Francis De Bie , Tracey Munk , Lynn Klimas , Jim Lennen , Benjamin Partagena , Jim Adams , Debi Toscanelli , Karla Smith , Lisa Taylor , Kevin Padifeld , and Don Bing Bingham . The murals were selected by members of the Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission following an invitation that was sent to all the local schools inviting students to submit sketches . May 8 March of Dimes Walkathon The day was beautiful and the students were in a good mood . By 7 : 30 A . M . 400 teens were ready to walk . At 7 : 45 A . M . over 500 students started on the 20-mile walk . Some walkers were jumping , taking short cuts , singing , but all had the spirit of raising money so they could help the fight against Birth Defects . The afternoon consisted of free cokes , cookies and rock music . Many teens walked the full twenty miles . Seven hundred fifty- six marched and over $25 , 000 were pledged . Red Morton volunteers and staff helped with registration , check - in stations , and refreshments . It was a fun and reward- ing day . May 15 CPRS Teen Workshop Center Supervisor and Recreation Teen Staff attended the CPRS - sponsored Teen Workshop from 9 : 00 A . M . to 12 : 30 P . M . at Foster City . One session was on how to set up "Teen Employment Bureaus " and the second session was on how to have " Positive Relations with Teens " . Speakers were probation officers , Junior High teachers , and health services representatives . The workshop helped to make the recreation leaders more aware of how to deal with teens and understand some of their social needs . - 10-
