PARK DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> MAY 1976 <br /> Foremen : Peter Griffiths <br /> Luis Hernandez <br /> Park Division personnel assisted in the Annual Art and Flower Show <br /> co - sponsored by the Department and the Redwood City Woman ' s Club . This <br /> event was held at the Veterans Memorial Building on May 15 and 16 . Division <br /> personnel transported materials and equipment for the show and assisted in <br /> setting up the tables , floral backdrops , and hanging basket racks for the <br /> show . Mrs . Doris Thompson , Show Coordinator , indicated that the show was <br /> a huge success and much credit goes to the Park Division personnel for <br /> their participation in the show . <br /> The major renovation of the Laurie Duncan Park areas is now complete , <br /> and the full - time maintenance of this area has been assumed by the crew <br /> maintaining islands and circles . This crew also provides for the seasonal <br /> preparation and planting of summer annuals at the various islands and <br /> circles throughout the city . Other park maintenance crews , including <br /> the East side district crew , Red Morton Community Park crew , and North side <br /> district crew , the South side district crew , and the Redwood Shores crew , <br /> also prepared all the planting beds for summer bedding plants . Most of <br /> the plants were planted by the end of May . However , it will be necessary <br /> to complete several of the areas by the first part of June . The bedding <br /> plants are those which provide the highly colorful floral areas throughout <br /> the city which seem to be enjoyed and favored by the public . Approximately <br /> 26 , 000 bedding plants will be used for the summer planting . <br /> The athletic field maintenance crew with help from seasonal laborers and <br /> CETA personnel are now maintaining daily all the school baseball diamonds <br /> for Little League use . A total of 22 diamonds are being used by Little <br /> League . Additionally , the City diamonds are now being fully used by the <br /> summer softball and baseball participants . The crew also provided special <br /> maintenance for the Olympia Softball Fast Pitch Tournament , which was <br /> held the first part of May , plus the Softball Slow Pitch Invitational Tourna- <br /> ment , which was held the weekend of May 22 and 23 . <br /> The Forestry Section personnel , in addition to continuing with their normal <br /> tree -care maintenance , assisted the Public Works crews in root- pruning opera - <br /> tions in an effort to replace sidewalk, curbs and gutters throughout the City <br /> in additionally damaged areas . <br /> Anthracnose , a fungus disease , has caused some problems of premature defolia - <br /> tion on many of the City ' s street trees , particularly affecting the Modesto <br /> Ash and California Sycamore .
