PARK DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT MAY 1976 Foremen : Peter Griffiths Luis Hernandez Park Division personnel assisted in the Annual Art and Flower Show co - sponsored by the Department and the Redwood City Woman ' s Club . This event was held at the Veterans Memorial Building on May 15 and 16 . Division personnel transported materials and equipment for the show and assisted in setting up the tables , floral backdrops , and hanging basket racks for the show . Mrs . Doris Thompson , Show Coordinator , indicated that the show was a huge success and much credit goes to the Park Division personnel for their participation in the show . The major renovation of the Laurie Duncan Park areas is now complete , and the full - time maintenance of this area has been assumed by the crew maintaining islands and circles . This crew also provides for the seasonal preparation and planting of summer annuals at the various islands and circles throughout the city . Other park maintenance crews , including the East side district crew , Red Morton Community Park crew , and North side district crew , the South side district crew , and the Redwood Shores crew , also prepared all the planting beds for summer bedding plants . Most of the plants were planted by the end of May . However , it will be necessary to complete several of the areas by the first part of June . The bedding plants are those which provide the highly colorful floral areas throughout the city which seem to be enjoyed and favored by the public . Approximately 26 , 000 bedding plants will be used for the summer planting . The athletic field maintenance crew with help from seasonal laborers and CETA personnel are now maintaining daily all the school baseball diamonds for Little League use . A total of 22 diamonds are being used by Little League . Additionally , the City diamonds are now being fully used by the summer softball and baseball participants . The crew also provided special maintenance for the Olympia Softball Fast Pitch Tournament , which was held the first part of May , plus the Softball Slow Pitch Invitational Tourna- ment , which was held the weekend of May 22 and 23 . The Forestry Section personnel , in addition to continuing with their normal tree -care maintenance , assisted the Public Works crews in root- pruning opera - tions in an effort to replace sidewalk, curbs and gutters throughout the City in additionally damaged areas . Anthracnose , a fungus disease , has caused some problems of premature defolia - tion on many of the City ' s street trees , particularly affecting the Modesto Ash and California Sycamore .
