REDWOOD CITY PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> SPECIAL MEETING OF MAY 20 , 1976 <br /> A special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called <br /> to order at 4 : 45 P . M . in Conference Room 1 of the Community Activities <br /> Building , 1400 Roosevelt Avenue , Redwood City . <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT : Commissioners Aldrich , Knecht , Pound , Rollins , <br /> Schlesinger and Weintraub . <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT : ( 1 Vacancy ) <br /> STAFF PRESENT : Director Max C . Weeks <br /> Park Superintendent Pasco Balzarini <br /> Recreation Superintendent Bill Paulson <br /> MOTION : Commissioner Rollins moved to accept and approve <br /> the minutes of the April 14 , 1976 Regular Business <br /> Meeting , seconded by Commissioner Schlesinger . <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote . <br /> CORRESPONDENCE : Letter from City Council -Joint Council /Commission <br /> Meetings <br /> Chairman Knecht read to the Commission a letter from the City Council which <br /> indicated the Council ' s desire to continue with joint Council / Commission <br /> meetings . The Council stated that it desired to set up a schedule of <br /> quarterly meetings for the next year , and requested that arrangements be <br /> made for such a meeting on a Monday in the last half of July . At that <br /> meeting arrangements for future meetings would be made . The Council indicated <br /> that they had found the joint meetings very helpful and enjoyable , and they <br /> believed that , if held more frequently , they would provide everyone with a <br /> better and continuing understanding of each others ' difficulties , concerns <br /> and objectives . <br /> Members of the Commission then discussed their individual availabilities <br /> for a meeting on either July 19 or July 26 . The 19th was tentatively <br /> chosen as the date pending a review of the commissioners ' personal calendars <br /> and acceptance by the City Council . <br /> CORRESPONDENCE : Citizen Appeal Re Tree Preservation Ordinance <br /> Mr . Weeks paraphrased for the Commission a letter received from Mr . Frank <br /> F . Giannini of 1311 Gordon Street , Redwood City , regarding the Department ' s <br /> denial of a permit to remove from his property a large , white oak tree , <br /> pursuant to the provisions of the City ' s Tree Preservation Ordinance . Mr . <br /> Weeks indicated that the Commission is the official appeal body for the Tree <br /> Preservation Ordinance , and that Mr . Giannini was requesting them to review <br /> this situation in his presence . Mr . Weeks further suggested that a committee <br /> would be sufficient to accomplish the review , and that upon inspection the <br /> - 2 - <br />
