' • `� '.�,.` <br /> .,;�. <br /> KEC�2EATION DIVISION t�IONTHLY REPORT <br /> SEPTE�IBER 1976 <br /> Center Operations & Special Interest Classes <br /> � <br /> � Special interest classes began during the last week of September and <br /> have been generally well received with almost no cancellations. <br /> Special Needs Pro rams <br /> The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a series of sport and <br /> special activity programs for the orthopedically handicapped in addition <br /> to the Saturday bowling league at Mel 's Bowl . <br /> The bowling league participants are forming the core of the program with <br /> additional people coming from the rest of the community. A survey is <br /> being sent out to 125 disabled people in the age range of 10 through <br /> 30 via a United Cerebral Palsy mailing. The survey lists a wide range <br /> of sport activities as well as arts activities. It will also pick up <br /> what day and time H�ould be the best for each participant. With the <br /> return of the survey to the Department, the activities will be set up <br /> according to interest, dates, and times. Sample activities where <br /> interest has been indicated by members of the bowling league are: <br /> Judo (self defense), basketball , swimming, darts, etc. <br /> In addition, the department is working on a Saturday program for men- <br /> tally retarded youngsters from the Los Amigos School . Nine are inter- <br /> ested in the program now (all Redwood City residents) and we are working <br /> with the parents on the program and lookina for qualified staff to lead <br /> it. <br /> The after school recreation program for Educable hientally Retarded and <br /> ♦ theEmo�.ionally Handicapped will be t alked about next week with the <br /> 4 school district to see if they will support busing for the students <br /> again this year as well as providing an aide to work with the recrea- <br /> tion leaders. <br /> Center Operations <br /> On October 22, a workshop on Volunteerism will be scheduled in coopera- <br /> tion with Canada College, RSVP, and the Area Agency on Aging. Also <br /> "Butterflies .1re Free" opens RCCT's fall season on October 22. <br /> Both the CAB and the Veterans Building were heavily b��oked for recep- <br /> tions and parties during SeE,tember <br /> -10- <br />
