� ' ' � r � ,�.. <br /> �, . <br /> , <br /> Center Operations & Special Interest Classes <br /> Monthly Report - September <br /> -Continued- <br /> Red Morton Center <br /> Staff at the Red Morton Center are working diligently to expand the teen <br /> � program at the Center and at the schools. A teen recreation night is <br /> being held at Hoover School every Tuesday from f:00 to 8:15 p.m. wh e r e <br /> the students in that nei�h borhood area will be provided v�ith a place <br /> to play basketball , volleyball , listen to music and enjoy other assorted <br /> games. Hopefully, as interest develops, other special interest activities <br /> will be offered. <br /> On Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. , the Center will <br /> a be opened for high school students only and Wednesdays from 7:00 to <br /> 9:30 p.m. will be for junior high students. Structured activities <br /> and classes as well as drop-in programs will be offered. <br /> The Center is also open now on Saturday nights and teens are encouraged <br /> to use the facilities as well as adults. <br /> The first junior high �Iance was held on September 24, and was a huge <br /> success with nearly 400 attending. The gym wa� set up with a disco <br /> atmosphere and the other rooms were opened for the teens to also use <br /> the qames and pool tables. <br /> Noon Time Pro ram <br /> Staff has been hired to program at P�cKinley and Hoover Junior High <br /> Schools during the lunch period. Programs at Hoover have included a <br /> "Day on the Green" concert to celebrate Mexican Independence and staff <br /> has use of a room 3 days a week for students to come to for socializing <br /> and special programs. At Mc�inley, the staff will be there 3 days and <br /> has already assisted in establishing inter-mural teams in football , <br /> started a disco dance class, and set up weekly meetings with the student <br /> = advisor. A student activities room has been established at t�cKinley <br /> and will be shared with the PTA. <br /> At Kennedy, things are moving a little more slowly and no structured <br /> programs for lunch time are being planned yet. <br /> Other activities at the schools currently include cheerleading and �om <br /> pom clinics. Volunteers from Sequoia have been secured to h�lp and <br /> clinics for over 200 girls are being conducted. Judging and selection <br /> will be held later in October. <br /> -11- <br />
