CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> April 3 , 1975 <br /> The meeting was opened by Chairman George Dragan at 7 : 40 , p . m. , <br /> in the Conference Room of the Community Activities Building , <br /> 1400 Roosevelt Avenue , Redwood City. <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT : George Dragan , Chairman ; Joyce Hiscox , <br /> Annette Howitt , Marcia Poncia , Jean Groberg , and Fernando Vega. <br /> COMMISSIONER ABSENT : Robert Buickerood . <br /> STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT : Max Weeks , Director of Parks and <br /> Recreation; and Mayfred Dawson , Stenographer . <br /> GUESTS PRESENT : Mrs . Joan Smith and Mr . Karl Vollmayer , Redwood <br /> City Librarian. <br /> MINUTES of the meeting of March 4 were approved as submitted . <br /> AGENDA ITEM 1 - Election of Officers : Deferred to April meeting . <br /> AGENDA ITEM 2 - Discussion of possible Fountain as part of <br /> Downtown Development : Deferred , to be included with Agenda <br /> Item 3 . <br /> AGENDA ITEM 3 - Long-range Goals and Selection of Immediate <br /> Objectives : ( To be continued at the next meeting ) <br /> Mr . Dragan asked Mr . Vollmayer to review the plans of the pro - <br /> posed remodeling at the Library. He showed the light fixture <br /> design which has been chosen to give the maximum amount of <br /> light. Pour mercury vapor lights will be installed and the <br /> old incandescent lights abandoned ® One flower bed will be <br /> removed to improve the traffic flow , The word "Library" will <br /> be placed in easily read letters on the overhang of the . main <br /> entrance , It should be visible from the street, <br /> The second part of the project is the entrance to the Children ' s <br /> Library. Since the law provides that access to public buildings <br /> be provided for the handicapped and there is not sufficient <br /> room from the parking lot , the approach from that side will <br /> remain unchanged . A ramp will be built from the front. <br /> Mr . Vollmayer said he thought , with regard to the proposed mural <br /> wall , that a three-dimensional mural of some kind might resist <br /> vandalism. Mr. Weeks suggested that the front wall of the <br /> courtyard might be removed to create a clear vista to the mural . <br /> This might also tend to reduce vandalism. <br />
