0 <br /> CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> September 4 , 1975 <br /> Chairman Robert Buickerood opened the meeting in the Conference <br /> Room of the Community Activities Building , 1400 Roosevelt Avenue , <br /> Redwood City , at 7 : 40 , p . m. <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT : Robert Buickerood , Chairman <br /> Marcia Poncia , Vice Chairman <br /> Alice Kennedy <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT : Annette Howitt <br /> Fernando Vega <br /> STAFF PRESENT : Max Weeks , Director of <br /> Parks & Recreation <br /> Mayfred Dawson , Recording Secretary <br /> GUESTS : Ken Schroeter , Redwood City Planning <br /> Director <br /> Dick Pusich , Director of Public Works <br /> Speer McClellan , Planning Consultant <br /> Mr . Weeks introduced the guests and said the Downtown Action <br /> Committee has an interesting concept for presentation to the <br /> Commission . Mr . Pusich said Mr . Bob Nissen , a Sculpture In- <br /> structor , is finishing a fountain which was started as a class <br /> sculpture project at Canada College . The Downtown Merchants <br /> Association has offered to buy a fountain for the City . Both <br /> Mr . Pusich and Mr . Schroeter feel that Mr . Nissen ' s project <br /> would be suitable . The fountain , approximately twelve feet <br /> high and five feet wide , and weighing about 21 tons , would be <br /> located at Marshall and Broadway , where it would be visible <br /> from El Camino Real . The artist is willing to donate it to <br /> the City for the cost of material , to be repaid to Canada <br /> College . He would like to have it dedicated to the youth of <br /> the city in memory of his son . Mr . Pusich said a group of <br /> interested persons would view the sculpture at 116 Scenic Drive <br /> at about 10 : 45 the next day. He said that in the development <br /> of downtown Redwood City there will be a number of mini -plazas <br /> in which sculptures may suitably be used . <br /> Mr . Schroeter asked Mr . McClellan to show projections he had <br /> made of the fountain . It was the consensus of those present <br /> that this might be an artistically acceptable piece of sculp- <br /> ture for the proposed location . <br /> Mr . Schroeter then presented another project which was sug- <br /> gested by the Downtown Action Committee . He showed a map of <br /> Mezesville , Redwood City ' s first name . At that time , the <br />
