Y, - •r. 13 " es o ..1., Joint Meeting <br /> /� I' <br /> CIVIC CULTURAL TURAL COMMISSION and <br /> & RECREATION COMMISSION 2��ja r e h 3 , 1977 <br /> AGENDA ITEM I. - Joint Pro ects <br /> Commissioner Pound invited the Civic Cultural Commissioners to <br /> ask questions about their committee structure since it has been <br /> functioning successfully for some time * She explained that com- <br /> mittees are set up more or less permanently , but function pri - <br /> marily as the need arises * Mr * peeks said that most of the <br /> committees other than Budget and Legislative meet once or twice <br /> a month , particularly those that are involved with Open Space * <br /> Chairman Pound said Commission members are usually rotated <br /> through the various committees so that well-rounded experience <br /> can be gained , If someone is to be absent from a committee <br /> meeting ; the Parks & Recreation Con issi. on Chairman will usually <br /> sit in for the absent member * It is important that any member <br /> who cannot attend give sufficient notice * Commissioner Weintraub <br /> said they have found it helpful to retain at least one member on <br /> each committee to give the work continuity * Mr * Weeks commented <br /> that the Civic Cultu.ra "l Commission committees have been project <br /> oriented while the Parks & Recreation Commission committees <br /> cover the entire scope of the work* <br /> Commissioner Pound said t st for the most part the committee <br /> structure has been retained throughout the years , providing con- <br /> stant goals , so they are always striving for somethi.ng0 From <br /> time to time , goals are reviewed and matters which have been <br /> completed are removed and new ones added * <br /> Commissioner Pound said the Commission endeavors to include out- <br /> side persons on their r committees so they get citizen input , and <br /> plan to have even more included in the future as this provides <br /> a good source for new commissioners w ho would have a general <br /> knowledge of the Commission ' s work * <br /> Cultural Commission Chairman Poncia suggested that a notice might <br /> be included in the Recreation Program announcement inviting in- <br /> terested persons to contact the Commissions * Commissioner <br /> Schlesinger said one of the committees is Community Relations <br /> and the 4oal for this committee is to invite community invo ve -- <br /> lent0 Commissioner Pound said they attempt to secure citizen <br /> involvement throughout the various sections of the city * <br /> Committee meetings are generally held in the afternoon and last <br /> about l - 2 hours * When the committee is ready to make a recorna <br /> mendati. on , it brings the matter to the Commission * Committee <br /> reports are included with the minutes so that the Commission as <br /> a whole can be -prepared0 <br />
