up at special evening meetings . An alternative to the morning meeting might
be a late afternoon meeting , for example , 4 : 00 P . M. ; and two meetings a month
would be a reasonable frequency .
Mr . Mohr couldn ' t make another night meeting . Noon meetings were a possibility ,
and Thursday mornings were bad for him .
Mr . Floyd indicated that there was apparently no alternative to the morning
meetings unless some evening activities were to be eliminated . Long morning
meetings would be bad for him, while 4 : 00 P .M. would be better if meetings proved
to be drawn out .
Mr . McGuire would have difficulty meeting in the morning because of his commuting
problem, but on the other hand , evenings are also not regularly available . Late
afternoon meetings are no better for him than morning meetings .
Mr . Gonzales finds that his schedule is flexible , although Friday evenings would
be unacceptable to him.
_ Mr . Moriguchi arrived later in the meeting and therefore did not offer a comment
on preferred meeting time .
Chairman Keckley expressed his concern for public participation, but felt that the
best turn out of the Committee would be at morning meetings and declared that for
at least the immediate future , meetings would be scheduled for the second and
fourth Wednesdays of each month to run from 7 : 00 A.M, to 8 : 00 A . M.
Chairman Keckley' then invited comments on the members ' ideas about the role of the
Committee .
Mr . Gonzales expressed a need for exploring the overall housing situation , gathering
data and just gaining information in general .
Mr . McGuire expressed his need for more familiarity with the particular housing
situation at our local level .
Chairman Keckley noted that the Regional Planning Committee (RPC ) will have the
proposed Housing Element on their agenda for this evenirrgb meeting , and that
this Committee could probably derive a great deal from i hat is contained in that
Housing Element report .
Mr. McGuire further desired a schedule of local meetings of other Boards and
Committees concerned with housing matters , and saw the A rst order of business
for this Committee to be that of establishing directions.
Mr . Floyd sees the Committee in the role of reviewing programs and proposals by
others more than exercising an authority to go out on their own and plan and
redevelop areas . Normal private housing can be directed toward accommodating
families at different income levels . In the past , all mew housing has been
supplied for just one stratum of the population . A lot of building is going on
in Redwood City right now . The Committee can be influeitial toward having some
of that new housing serve the other end of the spectrums particularly in the
ease where housing is promoted or encouraged by the City or subsidized directly
MINUTES HOUSING CONCERNS COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 20s 1971 PAGE 2 OF 4
r
,.
