He also asked where these <br /> houses should be moved to and he believes these should be moved to the historical <br /> districts. He would like a strategic vision/plan to address this matter. This Council <br /> Member offered to work with the HRAC to save this one home or a future one. He noted <br /> that this is an opportunity to beautify our community. He noted that these homes are <br /> becoming rarer and if we lose them he opined we lose some of the charm and character <br /> of Redwood City. He also spoke about the General Plan addressing this issue but he <br /> believes Council should be more prescriptive. He posed questions regarding cost; <br /> inventory, foundations, plumbing etc. and what can the City do with these after they are <br /> moved. He made various suggestions for use and he believes we can be innovative. He <br /> opined the City has land where these houses could be stored temporarily. He is looking <br /> for a strategic vision for this matter. In the mean time he offered to work with the Historic <br /> Resources Advisory Committee on this matter. <br /> Mayor Gee added that he had experience with assessing these homes and he <br /> understands the long term and financial implications for the city. He added that the big <br /> question is the long term solution and the Mayor offered to work with the City Manager <br /> on this matter. City Attorney Thompson said that this item is not on the agenda and so <br /> it should not be discussed. One other Council Member would like to discuss and pursue <br /> this matter as well. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust reported on three events she attended recently; 1) Connect 14 <br /> hosted by FaceBook, explaining what this event was about and how she appreciated <br /> the caliber of the speakers who addressed means of connecting communities; 2) She <br /> attended an Assembly Sub-committee meeting on biotechnology, hosted by <br /> Assemblyman Mullin, and there the various opportunities that are created to unite the <br /> industry to the academia were shared, she was proud that OncoMed a local Redwood <br /> City company, hires interns in the Summer to this end; 3) the 2�d Success Summit at <br /> Skyline College addressed the housing and workforce needs of the area and it had a <br /> panel of City Managers from North County. She summarized that these three events <br /> represented different way of thinking about Redwood City and how we can leverage and <br /> partner with other players. <br /> Council Member Aguirre announced that this coming Thursday she will be on a local <br /> panel for the Local Government Commission and she was invited as an MTC <br /> Commissioner, primarily because how Redwood City has responded to the Plan One <br /> Bay area. <br /> Council Member Pierce announced that there are still a few tickets left for the History <br /> Makers dinner where some wonderful people will be honored. She always enjoys this <br /> event. <br /> Mayor Gee announced that Dine Out for Meals on Wheels is this upcoming October 14, <br /> 2914.
