Motion carried by electronic vote with Council Member <br /> Howard recused and Council Member Bain voting no. <br /> MINUTE ORDER 14-186 <br /> Council Member Howard rejoined the dais. <br /> 10. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Reports of Conferences Attended <br /> Council Member Howard reported that the Regional Training Consortium of the Bay <br /> Area Public Agencies had offered a course in Effective Writing in Emails, and she <br /> enjoyed it. She commended the City for belonging to the organization and offering this <br /> course. She also mentioned the agency HEART and addressed the concerns the <br /> Council had regarding HEART's viability. Council Member Howard said that HEART <br /> has interviewed a finalist for retaining a consultant. They were preparing a list of <br /> deliverables and will present it next year. Also, early 2015, the Executive Director will <br /> be given an evaluation. <br /> Mayor Gee mentioned that on Saturday there were many events around town including <br /> the Hometown Holidays. He thanked all those who made it a very successful event. He <br /> also acknowledged the OCA (Organization of Chinese American) Holiday Luncheon <br /> that took place in Redwood City. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the Garrick Family for the last "Trees of Joy" Event at the Fair Oaks <br /> Community Center on Saturday. For the past eight years, Trees of Joy has provided <br /> over 3,000 Christmas trees with all the trimmings to families in our Redwood City and <br /> North Fair Oaks community who would otherwise not have a Christmas tree. <br /> The Garrick Family, who has generously sponsored this event for the last eight years, <br /> has decided that it is time for this event to come to a "graceful end". Mayor Gee said he <br /> invited them to come and be formally recognized at a meeting in early 2015 but for now <br /> to please accept our sincere thanks for so much generosity and kindness. <br /> B. City Council Committee Reports <br /> C. City Manager (Oral) Update <br /> D. City Attorney Report from Closed Session <br /> City Attorney Thompson stated that there was a Settlement Agreement concerning <br /> Sipple v. City of Hayward, et al. approved by the City Council. The vote was 7-0 in <br /> favor of the settlement. <br /> Dr. Bell introduced the new Library Director, Derek Wolfgram. <br /> 11.
