5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognition of Barbara Bigelow, Vice President of Administration, <br /> Redwood City San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce - Jeffrey Gee, <br /> Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee invited Ms. Bigelow to the podium to be recognized as someone who has <br /> been with the Redwood City San Mateo Chamber of Commerce since the early 1970's. <br /> He then invited Aaron Kiesler, Field Representative/Scheduler for Congresswoman <br /> Jackie Speier's Office to kick off this recognition. Mr. Kiesler expressed appreciation <br /> and good wishes to Ms. Bigelow for her work with the Chambers and upon her <br /> upcoming retirement and presented a certificate of recognition from Congresswoman <br /> Jackie Speier's Office. <br /> Mayor Gee presented Ms. Bigelow with a proclamation on behalf of the City Council, <br /> read excerpts from the document praising her leadership and how she has been an <br /> invaluable contributor in many ways to cities and communities in the area. Ms. Bigelow <br /> expressed her appreciation and recognized those she has worked with for many years <br /> and her family for their support. <br /> B. "Redwood General Tire" -Awarded the 2014 "Top Shop" "Best of the <br /> Best" Award -Alpio Barbara, Owner- Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> On behalf of City Council, Mayor Gee invited Mr. Barbara, owner of Redwood General <br /> Tire, to be recognized and congratulated him for receiving the prestigious award of Best <br /> of the Best Award in the 2014 "Top Shop" category sponsored by Tire Reviews <br /> Magazine. The Mayor noted that Mr. Barbara is a committed and successful business <br /> owner since 1985 who has given generously to our community in a myriad ways. <br /> C. Redwood City's Annual Water Conservation Poster Contest -Terence <br /> Kyaw, Assistant Public Works Director <br /> Mayor Gee said this year marks the 20th anniversary of our Annual Water Conservation <br /> Poster Contest in collaboration with teachers, we have been educating Redwood City's <br /> youth about the importance of conserving this limited resource. He noted that the city <br /> offers Water Wise Home Conservation Kits, Home Water Use Surveys, high efficiency <br /> appliances, lawn replacement, rain barrels, and toilet rebates. We also offer Water <br /> Wise gardening workshops, landscape irrigation efficiency programs, free efficient <br /> sprinkler nozzles and our recycled water project— all in order to conserve our drinkable <br /> water. He said that one of our most successful and an effective program is the Annual <br /> Water Conservation Poster contest for students, kindergarten through fifth grade. He <br /> expressed thanks to each of the local schools for their participation and said this year's <br /> contest theme is "Be a Drought Buster with H20 Joe." He then invited Mr. Chapel, <br /> Public Works Superintendent, to help with presenting the awards to each of the contest <br /> winners (presentation on file).
