William Conklin, resident of Redwood City and Chairman of the Board of <br />Directors of Marine Science Institute, stating that this is a dream come true for <br />the Institute providing a permanent place. Thousands of children have been <br />educated and this would provide the knowledge that the Institute is a resident <br />of Redwood City and will be available to children on the Peninsula and the Bay <br />Area. He strongly urged the Council to approve the proposal. <br />M/S Howard /Hartnett to close the public hearing. The motion passed by a <br />unanimous voice vote. <br />Recommendation <br />M/S Foust/Bain <br />Council Members stated that the proposal brings to the city jobs, training, and <br />research capabilities and to have the research center of a Fortune 100 company like <br />Abbott, is a fantastic opportunity. A suggestion was made that the design be less <br />mundane than presented. <br />1. Find that the proposed Zoning Map Amendment is in the public interest and <br />approve the Zoning Map Amendment from the General Industrial (FI) Zoning <br />District to the Industrial Restricted (IR) Zoning District. (Attachment 1) <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 60, ZONING MAP NO. 23 (HARBOR <br />NEIGHBORHOOD), OF ORDINANCE NO. 1130, THE REDWOOD CITY ZONING <br />ORDINANCE, AS AMENDED, TO REZONE PROPERTY AT 1 CARDINAL WAY <br />(TERMINUS OF CHESAPEAKE DRIVE) IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY FROM THE <br />GENERAL INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT TO THE INDUSTRIAL RESTRICTED DISTRICT <br />The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote.
