Construction noise would occur due
to the use of construction equipment, including front loaders, backhoes, haul trucks, and
cement trucks used for excavation, grading, and constructing of the structures.Table 4 lists the
typical noise generated from some construction equipment. Project construction would be
temporary and last approximately 16 months.
Table 4 Conslru_clion Equii m nt Noise
Equipment . Project construction would
comply with the City of Redwood City's construction noise regulations. Chapter 24, Section
24.32 of the Redwood City Municipal Code prohibits construction activities, including
demolition, alteration, repair or remodeling of or to existing structures and the construction of
new structures on property in a residential district or within 500 feet of a residential district,
between the hours of 8 PM and 7 AM on weekdays or at any time on weekends and holidays. In
addition, Section 24.31 prohibits noise levels from exceeding 110 dBA at a distance of 25 feet for
any item of machinery, equipment, or device used during construction in a residential district.
Noise from project construction may surpass the normally acceptable exterior noise levels for
residential land uses, as indicated by the noise levels generated by construction equipment
above(see Table 4).However, project construction is not anticipated to exceed the City's
La Palma Subdivision Project
Final Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration
49
