02/23/2015 <br /> Receives and handles crime scene evidence which may include weapons, narcotics, <br /> biohazardous materials, and items of high value. <br /> Photographs and classifies evidence by hazard and classification and secures in the <br /> correct location; and provides inventory reports for all evidence received, released, and <br /> disposed. <br /> Arranges for disposal of poisons, and hazardous, flammable, and explosive materials. <br /> Uses computer systems to perform continuous updates in evidence management <br /> databases for all evidence received, released and disposed; and computerized records <br /> management systems and court programs to determine the status of court cases; <br /> names of suspects, associated persons and interested parties; and the disposition of <br /> cases. <br /> Maintains security of all evidence and recovered property in the evidence vault and <br /> auxiliary evidence storage facilities, and during transportation; and updates chain-of- <br /> custody of all evidence while in the care and custody of the Evidence and Property <br /> Section. <br /> Issues, releases, destroys, and disposes of evidence and property in accordance with <br /> department policy; and issues, receives, and processes Evidence Disposition Reports <br /> for investigators and police supervisors. <br /> Prepares statistical and analytical reports; composes and types correspondence to <br /> victims of crime, owners, and finders of evidence and recovered property; prepares <br /> correspondence to outside agencies regarding the status of evidence and property. <br /> Notifies evidence/property owners and finders of the disposition of recovered items by <br /> formal letter, email or telephone; makes appointments with personnel to review or <br /> retrieve items from the vault. <br /> Prepares evidence for mailing and shipping, and sends items to other law <br /> enforcement agencies and owners living outside of the immediate area. <br /> Provides information to representatives from the District Attorney's Office, Public <br /> Defender's office, private attorneys, Victim/Witness Advocate Office, and members of <br /> the public on departmental policy and procedures involving matters pertaining to <br /> evidence. <br /> Testifies in court regarding procedures for the chain-of-custody; evidence collection and <br /> processing, evidence handling, storage, security, and disposition; and maintains current <br /> knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to property management. <br /> ATTY/RES0.3058/CC RESO AMENDING CITIY CLASSIFICATION GIS TECHNICIAN RE50.#15394 <br /> REV:02-11-15 MLG MUFF#905 <br /> Page 7 of 10 <br />
