(continued) <br /> Discussion followed and Mr. McGill and City Manager <br /> Fales replied to questions and commented on the <br /> City' s concern with regard to hospital facilities <br /> for the community and for the residents employed _ <br /> by the hospital; as to whether or not a letter might <br /> be a more effective approach rather than a resolu- <br /> tion; the fact that the Council will not meet again <br /> } until June 2 before which it is hoped the State will <br /> take action; and the position of the physicians <br /> themselves in refusing to practice. <br /> City Attorney Schricker examined the proposed reso- <br /> lution, stating it could be put into the form used <br /> by the City and adopted if Council so desires. <br /> MOTION: Councilman Henderson moved, seconded by <br /> Councilman Barrett, that Council authorize a letter <br /> be written for the Mayor' s signature expressing <br /> concerns related to the Sequoia Hospital without <br /> reference to support of any particular legislation <br /> now pending, and that the letter be addressed to <br /> Governor Brown, the Speaker of the Assembly, the <br /> President pro tem of the Senate, Senator Gregorio, <br /> and Assemblyman Arnett with a copy sent to the <br /> Sequoia Hospital Board of Directors. <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> (MINUTE ORDER NO. 75-96) <br /> 2. Petitions from retired employees of the City of <br /> Redwood City requesting amendments to the City' s <br /> contract with the Public Employees Retirement <br /> System and funding in the 1975-76 Annual Budget <br /> John Brophy, 167 King Street, retired City Auditor, <br /> fi representing retirees of the City, referred to the <br /> subject petitions relating to Assembly Bill 4223, <br /> effective January 1, 1975 and to Sections 21263, <br /> 21263.1 and 21263.3 of the Government Code, all <br /> concerning increased benefits for City retirees <br /> under the Public Employees Retirement System. <br /> Mr. Brophy described the provisions of AB 4223 and <br /> the cited sections of the Government Code and com- <br /> mented on possible cost to the City. <br /> Discussion followed and City Manager Fales and Mr. <br /> Brophy commented and replied to questions regarding <br /> the previous request on the subject made by former <br /> Fire Chief Lodi and the report presently being <br /> prepared. . . <br /> Glenn Jain, retired Director of Public Works, re- , <br /> plied to questions concerning the probable cost of <br /> the requested increase in retirement benefits and <br /> the concern of retirees that funds for such an in- <br /> { crease be budgeted for 1975-1976. <br /> -9- <br /> Reg.Mtg. <br /> 5/12/75 <br /> ._+, -,- <br />
