A budget saving of $8,000 <br /> 2 . A slight decrease in the self-supporting <br /> instruction program <br /> 3. Elimination of about 2,200 hours of night <br /> tennis court play <br /> In response to question, Director of Parks and <br /> Recreation Weeks advised that the extremely high <br /> vandalism rate when coin meters are used and payers <br /> must pay to operate the lights causes the cost to <br /> be substantially more than that of providing the <br /> lights. Mr. Weeks advised that push-button acti- <br /> vated lights are now in use and the master switch <br /> goes off at 10 :00 p.m. <br /> Alice Ogden (see above) stated that as a skier, she <br /> objects to use of public money to support tennis <br /> players. <br /> Mr. Luca (see above) objected to the use of tax- <br /> payers ' money to support tennis and recommended a <br /> fee be charged for use of City courts. <br /> Lou Byrne (see above) suggested the cost per hour <br /> for lighting is high. It was explained that the <br /> cost is not per lamp but for all lamps in the City <br /> lit at the same time. <br /> William Harlow (see above) suggested that the City <br /> is subsidizing some people ' s recreation at the ex- <br /> pense of others, some of whom may be on fixed in- <br /> comes and may not be able to afford their own <br /> recreation. <br /> -8- <br /> Budget <br /> Study <br /> 6/7/75 <br />
