Mrs. Francis observed <br /> that sports programs are good for young people <br /> and contribute to keeping them out of trouble. <br /> Mrs. Francis urged that recreation program budgets <br /> not be reduced. <br /> It was the consensus of Council that no change <br /> should be made . <br /> Redwood City Community Theatre <br /> City Manager Fales summarized the subject program. <br /> MOTION : Councilman Rhodes moved to eliminate the <br /> subsidy to the Community Theatre at a saving of <br /> $1,300. <br /> The motion died for lack of a second. <br /> Camp Programs <br /> Wilderness Camp - City Manager Fales summarized <br /> the program and observed that it provides out- <br /> door experience for many children who would <br /> otherwise not have it. He advised that it <br /> would be better to eliminate it than to <br /> attempt to cut the $5,600 budget. <br /> It was the consensus of Council that no change <br /> be made . <br /> Day Camp - City Manager Fales summarized the <br /> day-camp program which serves about 340 <br /> children from ages 4 through 12 . <br /> It was the consensus of Council that no change <br /> be made . <br /> Summer Aquatic Program <br /> City Manager Fales summarized the subject program, <br /> advising that about 20,000 citizens used the pools <br /> last summer and observed that studies have indicated <br /> it costs more to collect and process a nominal fee <br /> than would be received from the fee. <br /> Attention was called to the fact that if the program <br /> were eliminated, 4, 500 to 5,000 youths would be left <br /> without a place to swim or learn to swim. <br /> It was the consensus of Council that no change be <br /> made . <br /> -9- <br /> Budge <br /> 6/7/75 <br />
