40
Council, Mr. Redford stated he would support a payment
by the City of San Carlos as a contribution to the
operation of the boat.
Del Littfin, 2125 Ontario, San Jose, Commodore of Sequoia
Yacht Club, stated that at a general meeting held by his
Club last night, he wag-asked- to --65.11- the- attention of-
Council to the fact that boatowners pay a property tax
for the berth in the City and that some security should
be provided by the City, as well as assistance offered
in connection with rescue operations . Mr. Littfin also
suggested that the police boat was evidently established
in recognition of a need which existed and that increas-
ing use of the harbor and the plan to enlarge the Port
would indicate greater need of a police boat.
Carl Ondry, 64o Glennan, complimented the police officers
who operate the police boat and stated the boat is needed
at the harbor. Mr. Ondry urged consideration be given to
the many inexperienced boaters using the harbor and the
need for a regulatory force there .
District Commodore, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Leonard Cool,
1ti37 Chestnut, San Carlos, stated his main concern is
for safety for pleasure boating, that the Coast Guard
boat is too far away, that law enforcement is needed in
the Bay; and that federal monies have been made available
to the states for law enforcement on the water and Redwood
City should investigate obtaining such funds .
MOTION : Councilman Henderson moved, seconded by Council-
man
Barrett, to include in the Annual Budget for 1975-
1976 support for the maintenance and manpower of the
police boat as a charge against municipal marina activities,
while attempting to obtain federal and/or state funds to
support operation of the boat.
CLARIFICATION : Councilman Henderson explained that it is
the intent of her motion to bring the cost of maintenance
and operation of the police boat to the users through
charging those costs to marina activities, but that if
other government funds are available for maintenance,
equipment or operation, then she would wish to have the
City attempt to obtain them.
Discussion followed concerning the desire of boatowners
for a police boat, the best type of boat for the fob,
and the desirability of obtaining funds to assist with
the costs of the boat . Mr. Fales advised the charges
would be made to the marina, if it is legally possible .
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote .
(MINUTE ORDER NO. 75-113)
(The Council recessed from 9:34 to 9 :46 p.m. )
Kathleen Maher, 2054 Palm, softball player and coach,
urged Council to rescind their decision in a Budget Study
Session to increase fees for adult softball and basket-
ball. Miss Maher suggested that softball brings out
entire families to play and to watch the players, and
-7-
Reg.Mtg.
6/16/75
