Vince Buckhout (see above) thanked` Council for' <br /> taking the time to hear everyone who' wished' to <br /> speak with• regard to the request for wi'thdrawa'l of <br /> the 2600' Block of Broadway from the Improvement <br /> Area',o stating he believed it was a useful exchange <br /> among the businessmen involved . Mr. Buckout re- <br /> quested' the month of July be proclaimed' "Redwood' <br /> City Reunion Days" and invited everyone present to <br /> participate in the special program' downtown on <br /> July 11 and 12, 1975 . <br /> (The Council' recessed' from 12 .01 to 12 :09 a.m. ) <br /> 2 .. Gene Masciarelli, Mobil Oil Estates (see above)! re'- <br /> ferred' to his letter of June 19, 1975 d'istributedk <br /> to Council in the packet in which he requested an <br /> amendment to the sign ordinance which would permit <br /> developers to install directional signs to guide <br /> prospective buyers to developments at Redwood' <br /> Shores. Mr. Masciarelli displayed examples of the <br /> types of signs developers would like to use and re-` <br /> ferred to a letter of June 18 addressed' to him by <br /> a City Building Inspector who indicated' off-site <br /> advertising signs cannot be approved for the area. <br /> Klara Yewdal'l, real estate saleswoman? Bergman & <br /> Associates, urged amendment of the sign' ordinance <br /> to permit the type of directional' signs displayed <br /> by' Mr. Masciarelli to be used in' Redwood' Shores, <br /> observing that the signs do not contain adverti'siing'. <br /> John' Bergman, Bergman & Associates; spoke in' support <br /> of the requests of Mr. Masciarelli and' Ms. Yewdall'. <br /> Mr. Bergman suggested' some prospective developers, <br /> may not wish to become involved' in' the Redwood* Shores' <br /> area because of the difficulty of attracting pros- <br /> pects' there . <br /> Tom Garrett requested' directional signs for develop- <br /> ments in Redwood Shores and suggested' it would be' <br /> desirable to encourage new' home construction in the <br /> area . <br /> MOTION : Councilman Barrett moved, seconded' by Council- <br /> man' Will'iams, to refer the matter to staff for review <br /> and recommendation. <br /> Discussion followed and comment was made to to whether <br /> it might not be desirable to post the requested di- <br /> rectional signs immediately and the fact that Council <br /> -13- ' <br /> Reg.Mtg. <br /> 6/23/75 <br />
