Letter from State Librarian re California Library
Authority for Systems and Services (CLASS)
There being no objection, Mayor Weymouth ordered
the subject letter referred to the Library Board
and to staff for review and recommendation.
(Memo 8/11/75)
2 . Letter from The Salvation Army requesting reconsid-
eration of request for Revenue Sharing Funds
Mayor Weymouth advised that in discussing the sub-
ject with Lt . Moses Reyes of The Salvation Army,
he had explained that the Council had decided not
to take on any new projects with Revenue Sharing
Funds because the Revenue Sharing Program is
scheduled to terminate in 1976, and there is much
uncertainty as to whether it will be continued .
Lt. Moses Reyes, The Salvation Army, inquired as
to how his one-year-old program might receive
funds, if funds were denied because none had been
designated for the program in the past.
Assistant City Manager Smith explained that Revenue
Sharing was a five-year program, and the Council is
concerned about making commitments with an uncertain
revenue source as well as about how the funds are
used . Mr . Smith advised that Council has under-
taken a survey to provide the rationale behind re-
source allocations for the future .
Council discussion followed, and it was pointed out
that allocation of Revenue Sharing Funds was made
during 1975-76 Budget sessions, but that it was
believed that it would be both foolish and cruel
to commence new programs at this time where there
is no indication that the needed funding will be
available . Council members commented on their
hope that the Revenue Sharing Program will be
extended
-8-
Reg.Mtg.
8/11/75
