I,23
In response to question, Assistant City Attorney Maloney
advised that Council may overrule protests and determine
whether or not it is in the best interest of the City to
establish an underground district. Director of Public
Works Pusich referred to a slide depicting the proposed
underground district and advised that the American
Legion hall is not in the proposed district, since the
property does not receive utility service from El
Camino Real.
Albert Davies, 1101 El Camino Real, asked whether the
district being proposed is an assessment district and
whether utilities will be entirely underground. Mr.
Davies was advised that the proposed district is not
an assessment district, and the only cost to property
owners will be for reconnection.
Mrs. John Puppo, 3501 Eden Drive, Santa Clara, referred
to her property as depicted on the slide projection of
the proposed district, and asked how it would be affected.
Mr. Pusich advised that her property will not be affected
as it appears not to be in the proposed district.
Frank Nash, Pacific Ready Mix, 25 Maple Street, referred
to his property as depicted on the slide and asked
whether, if utility service is available from the rear
of his lot, he could change to that service rather than
reconnect on El Camino Real. Staff advised that the de-
cision belongs to PG&E, observed that there might be
future benefits' to be derived from an El Camino Real
connection, and recommended Mr. Nash pursue the matter
with PG&E.
Marie Summers, Chef ' s Enterprise, 1428 El Camino Real,
inquired as to the anticipated disruption and its pos-
sible effect on business. Mr. Summers made the same
inquiry. Staff and Mr. Carrera advised that construc-
tion will take place as quickly as possible resulting
in disruption of about a week in each block and noted
that the only problem will be the asphalt instead of
concrete sidewalks during the project construction
period. .
MOTION : Councilman Williams moved, seconded by Council-
man Leipzig, to close the public hearing.
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
The public hea"ring was closed at 8 :45 p.m.
MOTION: Title having been read, Councilman Henderson
introduced the following ordinance and moved, seconded
by Councilman Barrett, its approval for first reading:
ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING UNDERGROUND UTILITY DIS-
TRICT IN PORTION OF CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; AND
DESIGNATING SAID DISTRICT AS UNDERGROUND UTILITY
DISTRICT NO. 73-1; DESCRIBING THE BOUNDARIES OF
SAID DISTRICT; AND ESTABLISHING THE TIMES IN
WHICH POLES AND OVERHEAD WIRES SHALL BE REMOVED
AND UNDERGROUND SERVICE PROVIDED
-4-
Reg.Mtg.
8/25/75
