Joe Lodi, former Fire Chief of Redwood City, de-
scribed he failure of the former Governor to sign
the bills before the Legislature in the 1974 session rte.
which would have granted an increase in retirement
pay to former City employees. Mr. Lodi requested
that Council investigate the possibility of making
provision for an increase in retirement pay for re-
tired City employees this year and commented on the
financial difficulties created for many retirees by
the inflation of recent years.
City Attorney Schricker advised that some legal
problems exist in that the Public Employees Retire-
ment System would regard City funds paid to retirees
as an additional retirement system which is prohibited.
Mayor Weymouth requested that a legal analysis of
the matter of the City making contribution to the
retirement income of former City employees and a
report on the prospective cost of doing so be pre-
pared for Council. Mayor Weymouth requested that
a copy be provided to Mr. Lodi.
