9
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
Li 18. Communication from Redwood Shores, Inc. re
definition of Bair Island
Eugene Masciarelli, Project Manager, Redwood Shores, Inc.,
350 Marine World Parkway, referred to the subject letter and
distributed copies of Page 23 from the Draft Environmental
Impact Report entitled "South Shores Concept Plan and
Technical Reports" which incorrectly describes Bair Island.
Mr. Masciarelli said that the incorrect description of Bair
Island creates confusion and will cause problems because
South Shores is not a part of any wildlife refuge. He
called attention to San Mateo County maps from 1868 forward
and those of federal mapmaking agencies which confirm his
statements regarding the designation of the boundary of Bair
Island. Mr. Masciarelli asked Council to direct staff to
make whatever changes may be necessary so that South Shores
is not referred to as part of Bair Island.
Discussion followed and Planning Director Schroeter advised
that he had suggested Redwood Shores Inc. bring the matter
to Council in order to make the designation clear, since
Leslie Salt Company, the previous owner of the property,
sometimes called the whole area Bair Island, being unable to
foresee the problems which would be caused later.
M/S: Stangel/Leipzig that the Zoning Map be corrected to
show only the area north of Corkscrew Slough as Bair Island
and that the Draft Environmental Impact Report on South
Shores Concept Plan and Technical Reports be corrected {
accordingly. 1
IP" Carried unanimously by voice vote.
