Report re refuse collection Report of City Manager 11/5/81 <br /> Report of Director of Finance 11/4/81 <br /> City Manager Fales said that no document has been provided with the subject <br /> report for adoption at this time, since it is staff expectation that Council <br /> will want to review the matter and schedule action for a later date. <br /> Discussion followed and Mr. Fales and Director of Finance Ference commented <br /> and replied to questions concerning the alternatives presented; the attempt <br /> to keep the cost to residents as low as possible; the fact that the public <br /> dump in Menlo Park is scheduled to close January 2, 1981 and unless <br /> residential pickup of refuse is arranged, residents will have to transport it <br /> themselves to Ox Mountain or Mountain View pending availability in 1983 of <br /> the new transfer station in San Carlos; the probability that refuse will be <br /> illegally dumped because of the distance to dump sites; whether or not <br /> curbside pickup of garbage and refuse is desirable; whether the tonnage <br /> figures used by Browning-Ferris are accurate; alternate pickup arrangements <br /> involving both backyard and curbside; and practices regarding pickup in other <br /> cities. <br /> CONSENSUS: Mayor Biagi determined it to be the consensus of Council to ask r. <br /> staff to prepare additional information on alternatives for pickup of garbage <br /> and refuse, including the suggestion of Councilman Chandler that garbage <br /> continue to be picked up from backyards weekly and that pickup of refuse be <br /> made on an every-other-week basis; and that consideration of refuse <br /> collection be placed on the City Council Agenda for November 23, 1981. <br /> (memo 11/10/81) <br /> CONSENSUS: Mayor Biagi determined it to be the consensus of Council that <br /> Director of Finance Ference be appointed Alternate Representative to <br /> Councilman Rhodes on the South County Garbage and Refuse Disposal District <br /> Board so that the City will be represented during the absence of Councilman <br /> Rhodes because of illness.
