7. <br /> TRANSPORTATION (continued) <br /> TRAFFIC SAFETY <br /> CONSENSUS: Mayor Biagi determined it to be the consensus of Council to <br /> repeat the objective of using thermoplastic street markers. <br /> (Memo 6/14/81) <br /> In response to question, Director of Public Works Addiego said that the <br /> City attempts to recover costs of any damage done to City property. <br /> TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AND INVESTIGATION, <br /> TRAFFIC ENGINEERING <br /> TRAVELED WAY MAINTENANCE <br /> TRAFFIC CONTROL MAINTENANCE <br /> STREET LIGHTING <br /> Director of Public Works Addiego reported on the workshop sponsored by <br /> the City in connection with the City's attempts to approach the Public <br /> Utilities Commission to request a reduction in PG&E rates to reflect the <br /> reduction in power usage of the new sodium vapor street lights. He said <br /> that the cities of San Jose, Berkeley, Long Beach, San Diego and Orange <br /> and the County of San Mateo have all joined the City in the request. Mr. <br /> Fales advised the presentation to the Public Utilities Commission will <br /> take place on June 22, 1981. <br /> RIGHTS-OF-WAY BEAUTIFICATION <br /> STREET TREES <br /> ISLANDS, MEDIANS AND CIRCLES <br /> In response to questions, Mr. Fales said that it is expected the <br /> landscaping of the El Camino Real median strip can be completed by the <br /> first part of next year and that the installation and maintenance of <br /> lawn there is too expensive to consider. <br /> • STREET FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS <br /> PARKING (Report of City Manager 6/11/81; Report of Director of Finance <br /> 6/9/81) <br /> City Manager Fales referred to the subject reports advising that the <br /> matter of Parking Meter Rate Increases is scheduled for a forthcoming <br /> City Council Agenda. Mr. Fales and Director of Finance Ference commented <br /> concerning the deficiencies in parking revenue. Assistant City Manager <br /> Smith reported that a meeting of 30 to 40 merchants was held and they <br /> have been given copies of the subject reports and were notified that the <br /> matter would be discussed at the Budget Study Session today and will be <br /> on the Agenda.
