It <br /> was pointed out that no shopping center is <br /> under consideration. <br /> Mayor Biagi invited anyone else who wished to <br /> speak to do so. No one wished to speak. <br /> M/S: Stangel/Britschgi to close the public <br /> hearing. <br /> Carried unanimously and public hearing closed <br /> at 9:40 p.m. . <br /> M/S: Chandler/Bury to deny the application to <br /> amend the General Plan for property located at <br /> 205 Harbor Boulevard; and to deny the applica- <br /> tion for rezoning of the same property upon <br /> the following findings: that the proposed <br /> amendment is not in the public interest be- <br /> cause the permitted uses of the property would <br /> be incompatible with present uses and the <br /> amendment as proposed would be inconsistent <br /> with the General Plan. <br /> Discussion followed concerning whether_resi- <br /> dential use of Port property is compatible <br /> with the present and anticipated uses; the <br /> desirability of the unique waterway transpor- <br /> tation system for industry; whether the pro- <br /> posal is not incompatible with the goals of <br /> the General Plan, whether any consideration OM <br /> would be given to approval of a heavy indus- <br /> trial project in an established residential <br /> area like that proposed to be developed; the nail <br /> fact that the proposed development is very <br /> attractive whether or not it would be appro- <br /> priate for the Port site; the lack of space _ <br /> in the City for industrial sites; the con- <br /> currence in the Waterfront Plan of some 19 <br /> involved agencies that the Port property is <br /> appropriate for industry; and the considerable . <br /> opposition expressed in the EIR. <br /> Councilman Bury stated for the record that he <br /> does not regard heavy industry as the only <br /> appropriate use of the subject property. <br /> Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 81-6 <br /> (Council recessed from 9:50 to 10:00 p.m.) <br /> REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS REPORTS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> None None <br /> REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER <br /> 3.
