250
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (continued)
DEVELOPMENT CONTROL
BUILDING INSPECTION SERVICES
Attention was called to the importance of the analysis of
permit processing procedures.
GENERAL ENGINEERING
moo
It was noted the objective of streamlining office forms and
procedures to handle routine permits is related to the analysis
referred to under Building Inspection Services.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS ENGINEERING
Mr. Fales called attention to the deletion of positions related
to GID No. 1-64 bond construction projects where the engineering
portion of the work is completed.
CONCEPTUAL AND PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING
City Manager Fales said that 1981-82 may be the most diffi-
cult year for the City as it cannot be known now what re-
sources may be, observing that Capital Improvements are
considered last. It was suggested that it might be appro-
priate to have a day-long session on what projects the City
might consider undertaking and whether it might be possible
to have a bond issue approved, if the people were made aware
of the real need for some projects, such as a new library.
DESIGN ENGINEERING *+
CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING
GID 1-64 BOND CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING
It was pointed out that $11.8 million bond projects are near-
ing completion and the shift will be away from GID 1-64.
COMMUNITY PROMOTION
In response to question, Director of Finance Ference said that
$200,000 remains a good estimate of anticipated revenues from
the transient occupancy tax.
Councilman Bury, representative to the San Mateo County Conven-
tion and Visitors Bureau and .President of the Bureau, advised
that motels and hotels on the Peninsula are doing well and,
although few are located in Redwood City, they provide many
entry level and service jobs for City residents.
It was reported that Robert Haight, President-elect of the
Chamber of Commerce, strongly favors establishment of a fulltime
Office of Business Development and Assistance, and attention
was called to the letter of June 12, 1980 from Donald G. Warren,
current President, proposing the City's allocation to the
Chamber be used for that Office. ,,
City Manager Fales reported that the request for allocation of
$5,000 from PCA (Peninsula Celebration Association) was lost
in the mail , so no recommended allocation for that agency
appears in the Budget.
Pete Hughes, 285 Woodside Drive, Woodside, President of PCA,
stated that the Association recognizes that tip:: approximately
!' $8,000 which it costs for City participation in the 7,urth of
A Budget Study
6/14/80
Page 7
L
