Since
he is President of the Bureau, however, he cannot speak both
as a Council member and for the Board, but he can speak for
the Board.
Councilman Bury, speaking as President of the Visitors and Con-
vention Bureau, urged that the recommended allocation of $25,000
be budgeted for the Bureau, observing that many Redwood City
residents are employed in service industries elsewhere in the
County because of the significant effort of the Bureau in bringing
visitors and conventions to the County.
Discussion followed concerning the benefits to Redwood City;
the fact that some cities which benefit most from Bureau activ-
ities
do not always contribute accordingly; and the desirability
of the Bureau being more active in supporting the airport,
because of fears that airlines may prefer to move to Oakland.
M/S: Leipzig/Rhodes to allocate $20,000 to the San Mateo
County Convention and Visitors. Bureau in the 1980-81 Annual
[:: Budget.
Carried unanimously by voice vote, Councilman Bury abstaining.
