It was observed that while such experience with <br /> custodial work was poor, it might be worthwhile in some areas <br /> of park maintenance. City Manager Fales stated that from <br /> time to time staff will investigate to determine whether con- <br /> tracting out work might be effective, observing that a cost <br /> study on park maintenance was prepared recently by a private <br /> group at little cost to the City. <br /> PARK FACILITY MAINTENANCE <br /> At the request of Director of Finance Ference, the total <br /> allocation for Supplies and Services for 1980-81 was corrected <br /> to $194,360. <br /> In response to questions about possible use of water ground <br /> sensitive devices for watering, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Griffiths advised that difficulties exist because some sensing <br /> systems gather water and others must be buried so deep it <br /> takes considerable rain to reach them and some plantings <br /> will die. <br /> SPECIAL EVENTS AND PROJECTS <br /> COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES <br /> MUNICIPAL ATHLETICS AND AQUATICS <br /> City Manager Fales advised it is expected the Herkner Swim <br /> Center will be ready for use in summer of 1981, and that <br /> Sequoia pool will be used to some extent this summer. <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS AND SPECIAL CLASSES <br /> In response to question regarding any decrease in use of <br /> facilities because of decreases in school attendance, <br /> Recreation Supervisor Hartman advised that there is no de- <br /> crease in participation in City recreation programs including <br /> after-school programs.
