Planning Commission recommendation re Report of City Manager 2/27/80 <br /> adoption of an Historic Preservation Report of Planning Director and Building <br /> Ordinance Official 2/22/80 <br /> Planning Commission record transmitted 1/18/80 <br /> ORDINANCE ADDING CHAPTER 40 TO THE CODE OF <br /> THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO In response to question, City Manager Fales <br /> HISTORIC PRESERVATION advised that the estimated first year enforce- <br /> ment costs were based on requirements of the <br /> proposed ordinance, consideration of the com- <br /> munity, and the experience of other cities. <br /> Ken Rolandelli, President, Redwood City <br /> Heritage Association, 2466 Oregon, stated <br /> that the Association strongly supports the <br /> proposed resolution. In response to question <br /> regarding the requirement to keep buildings in <br /> good repair, Mr. Rolandelli stated that members <br /> of his Association could bring to the attention <br /> of public officials cases of neglect, but that <br /> a continuing inspection by the Building Official <br /> is not expected. Mr. Rolandelli said that his <br /> members are aware of the funding situation in <br /> the City and intend to be realistic and give <br /> strong volunteer support. <br /> lrrr <br /> In response to question regarding whether cos- <br /> metic treatment of historic buildings is in- <br /> volved as well as building code requirements, <br /> City Attorney Schricker advised that the intent <br /> is to preserve historic aspects of a building <br /> beyond merely its structural integrity, stating <br /> that the City has the legal authority to do so. <br /> Lengthy discussion followed and Mr. Rolandelli, <br /> Mr. Schricker and Planning Director Schroeter <br /> commented and replied to questions concerning <br /> source of funds for purchasing historic sites <br /> or buildings; the fact that the property desig- <br /> nation of "historic" will encumber the property <br /> and restrictions would be recorded; that dis- <br /> putes regarding hardship could be resolved in <br /> Reg.Mtg. <br /> 3/3/80 <br /> Page 2 <br /> tow <br />
