7.1.A. - Page 2
ALTERNATIVES
If the proposal is not approved, the City will have to issue another Request for Proposal.
This will severely impact our schedule for having this work completed during fiscal year
2014/2015. Moreover, we will run the risk of a malfunction or failure at the pump station,
resulting in potential flooding in the Seaport Center Business Park.
Conducting a third competitive bid process would likely not result in any cost savings
since the bid process included contacting multiple companies that perform this work and
following the criteria and requirements that Redwood City competitive bid process
requires.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for this project have been allocated and are available in the fiscal year 2014/2015
from Seaport Center Maintenance District budget.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The activity for replacement of the Seaport Centre storm water pump station discharge
pipe is categorically exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality
Act, Section 15302 (Replacement or Reconstruction). This exemption allows for the
replacement of existing structures and facilities located on the same site that have
substantially the same purpose and capacity. The discharge pipe that would be installed
as part of this activity would not result in an increase of storm water capacity nor would
be longer than the pipe to be replaced.
91(A/
JUSTIN CHAPEL
PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT
RAMANA CHINNAKOTLA
PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
ROBERT B. BELL
CITY MANAGER
