Another Council Member is fooking <br /> forward to additional sites for more parking garages and she is looking for more <br /> education and she is happy with the compatible meters and she hopes that all future <br /> agreements will have a shared parking component. One Council Member appreciated <br /> that new tech is on the way, he also would like to have library patron's park for free, and <br /> he inquired about the deficit on the parking fund. Mr. Aknin said that he will get back to <br /> Council with an answer. One Council Member inquired if we can say with certainty that <br /> within two years there witl be a substantial increase in parking downtown. Mr. Aknin <br /> confirmed that wil! be a fact. Dr. Bell then explained the parking for Block 2 and <br /> commente� on parking numbers and the validation program. One Council Member <br /> wanted staff to be cognizant of aesthetics and to be creative especially on the two sites <br /> around City Hall and Mr. Aknin concurred and confirmed. One Council Member <br /> commented on a parking garage on Broadway with excellent design and it was Mr. Nick <br /> Watry who was in the audience who designed it. Mayor Gee explained the intricacies <br /> that go with changing the parking technology and how it is a complex science with <br /> considerable infrastructure. <br /> Dr. Bell then introduced Ms. Ramberg to explain the Strategic Plan (adopted in 2010) <br /> and he summarized what he heard at the recent retreat and in general terms there was <br /> concurrence to keep the Plan and enlarge the Youth Initiative to make it broader and to <br /> rename it as Community for All Ages. One Council Member thanked Ms. Ramberg for <br /> her work and she encouraged Ms. Ramberg to do the evaluative work and think about <br /> setting some positive measures in various areas. Another Council Member thanked Ms. <br /> Ramberg for all her work and choice of words. She agreed with the Strategic Priorities <br /> and she values the focus they offer and the fact that it improves the quality of life. This <br /> Council Member wanted to have places of worship included in the Communications <br /> piece and keep these organizations informed to avoid conflict or competing with the <br /> same events. She also wanted to highlight affordability in housing for a community for <br /> all ages. Another Council Member shared his excitement and he found this is the best <br /> Strategic Plan that Redwood City has had since its inception. Vice Mayor Foust said <br /> she remembered the journey and she could not be more proud of where we are with <br /> this product and document. She believes that with the big number of new housing units <br /> coming onboard we have a new neighborhood called "downtown". <br /> Mayor Gee appreciated the work done and he would like to see some kind of score card <br /> regarding the ongoing infrastructure investment. He supports the Strategic Initiatives <br /> because they will endure the test of time. He would also like to see Code Enforcement <br /> in a positive light and to see Redwood City Partnership and the Housing Strategy as foci <br /> for the future so we can keep track what is going on and how these evolve. <br /> Next Dr. Bell focused on looking ahead as well as revisiting what was approved last <br /> year by the City Council. He covered the items that were additional resources that were <br /> added last year. He then covered what is being proposed for the FY 15-16 and he <br /> covered each of the possible budget recommendations (presentation on file) including <br /> the possibility of a downtown senior day with shuttles and the retail market providing a <br /> senior discount day.
