through Partnership Redwood City and have a stable source to feed that Fund. Council
asked specific questions about this initiative. One other Council Member also had
questions about the street sweeping program and the library staffing for Schaberg
Library.
Dr. Bell gave credit where credit was due and noted that it was the Vice Mayor's idea to
have a senior day downtown. Another Council Member was very supportive of the
program and he asked if staff had an idea of how much the funding would be needed for
the Endowment fund. Dr. Bell said that the revenue stream would depend on how much
the Partnership Redwood City would generate. Council was very supportive of this
approach.
Regarding street sweeping one Council Member wanted an additional pilot on a
different side of the street and she would like that in a residential neighborhood and it
might be a good opportunity to get residents involved and participate. Dr. Bell said that
a pilot program might be a good approach and he will also have staff look at the delivery
model to see if there are any possibilities for improvement. This Council Member
supports all the other ideas and she fully supports the HSFA approach and she looks
forward to seeing what areas are most critical. Another Council Member appreciated
the fact that Engine 9 was reinstated and he is happy that it is back and the qualitative
metrics are hugely helpful. This Council Member appreciates all the initiatives especially
the Senior Day and he particularly appreciated the HSFA funding idea and he believes
this is a sustainable and innovative approach. This Council Member would like to get
the CBID and the Downtown Business group involved to engage private partnerships.
Dr. Bell clarified that this came out of a discussion at the Council retreat and from that
he took the idea and then Mayor Gee thought of the Endowment fund.
Vice Mayor Foust thanked Dr. Bell for taking to heart the comments from the Council at
the retreat. She also asked if the new Public Works Director could have some creativity
with a pilot for street sweeping in residential areas. This Council Member said that she
hopes to increase the communication efforts and she is looking for more communication
via various means and to reach out to various organizations and how best to do it. She
mentioned resurrecting the City newsletter. She thanked the City Manager and all the
Department Heads collectively. Mayor Gee concurred with a line item for enhanced
communication and he is looking forward to the execution on all these preliminary plans.
He also mentioned that he would like to continue providing the City Manager with an
Innovation Fund.
Public Comment
Eva Orbit, a community organizer with Innovate Public Schools, spoke about their
upcoming Community Action Forum Meeting on March 11 and the goals for the event.
She is excited that Mayor Gee will speak at the event and invited the community to
come.
11.
