9.A. - Page 2
ANALYSIS
GENERAL PLAN COMPLIANCE
This designation implements the Goals and Policies of the Historic Resources section of
the 2010 General Plan by reinforcing the City's dedication to preserving historic and
cultural resources and educating the public on the benefits of historic preservation.
Further, this designation will fulfill the following General Plan program:
Program BE-123: Preserve America. Consider pursuing Redwood City's
designation as a Preserve America Community to assist with the City's heritage
tourism and wayfinding efforts and potential project funding.
As noted in the background section, the Preserve America application does not create
new policy. It generally recognizes the City's ongoing and adopted historical
preservation policies, and puts the City in a better positon to obtain grants to support
those policies.
ALTERNATIVES
Direct staff not to apply for the designation.
FISCAL IMPACT
None
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The designation of "Preserve America Community" does not constitute a "project" under
the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The designation will not result in a
direct physical change in the environment or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical
change in the environment.
KAREN VAUGHN
PRINCIPAL PLANNER
AARON AKNIN
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
FOR ROBERT B. BELL
CITY MANAGER
