9.D. - Page 1 REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager May 4, 2015 SUBJECT Council Appointments to the Board of Building Review and to the Planning Commission RECOMMENDATION Appoint by roll call vote an applicant to the Board of Building Review to fill an unexpired seat which ends May 31 , 2016 with the following applicants being considered: Wiliam John Buckleman Daniel G. Lewin Appoint by roll call vote an applicant to the Planning Commission to fill an unexpired seat which ends June 30, 2017 with the following applicants being considered: Jason Galisatus Consuelo Connie Guerrero Robert A. Nice BACKGROUND On October 22, 2014 the Staff Liaison to the Board of Building Review Committee received a resignation by the Chair effective immediately. On February 2, 2015 the City was informed that the Chair to the Planning Commission had to resign from that seat due to incompatibility of Offices. ANALYSIS Staff began the recruitment process for these two seats on March 4, 2015 and it ran through March 31 , 2015. The outreach included a press release by Mayor Gee, a video regarding Boards, Commissions and Committees, various e-news blasts, and street banners being placed in two locations. The vacancies were also announced at Council Meetings and on the scroll which runs on various local TV channels. In order to further engage the community, on March 23, 2015 the City Council hosted an Open House for all interested parties. This was an opportunity for community members to connect with Council, Staff Liaisons and other key staff to receive information on the work and role of these positions. At the closing of the recruitment period two applications were received for the Board of Building Review and 11 applications for the Planning Commission. Staff verified that all
