7.1.B. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
May 18, 2015
SUBJECT
Award of Contract — Fair Oaks Community Center HVAC Replacement Project
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve the contract documents and award the standard form contract for
the Fair Oaks Community Center HVAC Replacement Project to Greentech Industry,
Inc. of Oakland, CA for their responsive and responsible low base bid of $162,000.00
and authorize the City Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to
10% of the amount awarded.
BACKGROUND
Fair Oaks Community Center was constructed in 1971 and a senior center addition was
constructed in 1988. Two out of the eight existing rooftop HVAC units have reached
their useful life and need to be replaced. The City hired Ancon Engineering a
Mechanical Engineering consultant to prepare plans and specifications to replace the
existing units.
ANALYSIS
The project consists of the following improvements:
1) Removing and replacing two (2) rooftop HVAC units
2) Installing of a third rooftop HVAC unit to supply heating and ventilation to the
classroom,
3) Associated work including electrical improvements, seismic bracing, control panel
installation and "zone damper" installation to better control and improve energy
savings and other minor improvements.
As required by City policy, the City put the above mentioned work "out to bid" in
March 2015. Two (2) bids were received at the bid opening on April 8, 2015 and are
summarized in the following table:
