7.1.D. - Page 16
This study was conducted in two jurisdictions in the county of Yolo, located in
Northern California. Per the 2012 Census estimates, Yolo has a total population of
204,118. Yolo's voting age population as compared to the overall average for the State is
slightly lower with 22% versus 24.3%, it also has a lower population that is 65 years and
older with 10.6% versus 12.1% for the State. Yolo's racial make-up is more white with
76.2% versus 73.7% for the State, less Black(3% versus 6.6%) and about average for
Asians with 13.6% versus 13.9%. In terms of ethnicity, Yolo has a lower Latino
population than the State overall, with 31% versus 38.2%. It also has a lower foreign-
born population than the State with 21.2% versus 27.2%. The percent of those speaking a
language other than English at home is almost 10% lower than for the rest of the State
with 34.5% versus 43.2%.
The per capita money income in the past 12 months (as reported in 2012 in 2011
dollars) was $28,631, about$1,000 below the state average of$29,634 while the median
household income of$57,920 falls about $4,000 under the $61,632 California average.
There are also more people in Yolo County living below the poverty level (18.6%) as
compared to the state average (14.4%).22
Yolo, however, has a higher than average education level overall with 84.1% versus
80.8% being high school graduates or higher and for bachelor's degree or higher, we see a
significant difference of 38.4% versus 30.2%. This is likely an effect due to the
University of California at Davis being part of this small county. The University's
enrollment figures for 2012 show 33,300 students, which is a significant number in a
22"State&County QuickFacts:Yolo County,California."
