Page 1 of 2 <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Council Personnel Subcommittee <br /> <br />June 22, 2015 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Salary Adjustments for the City Attorney and City Clerk <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute amendments to the employment <br />agreements for the City Attorney and City Clerk to provide for a salary adjustment <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Salaries for the Council-Appointed positions, including the City Attorney and City Clerk, <br />are reviewed by the City Council on an annual basis, typically at the time of the <br />employee’s annual performance evaluation. Salary adjustments are made with <br />consideration given to employee performance, salary position within the City’s survey <br />market of benchmark cities, and the current financial conditions of the City. The most <br />recent salary increases for the City Clerk and City Attorney were granted in July, 2014. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />During the most recent performance reviews for the City Attorney and City Clerk, the <br />Personnel Subcommittee considered appropriate salary adjustments, with consideration <br />given to the increased cost of living and the respective positions of each salary within <br />the City’s labor market. Given the increasing development activity and related demands <br />on City services, Council seeks to reward and retain the leadership of the City and <br />remain in solid position for the future by maintaining salaries at a competitive position <br />within the market. <br /> <br />The recommended salary adjustments are as follows: <br /> <br />Position Recommended <br />Increase <br />Current Salary <br />(monthly) <br />New Salary <br />(monthly) <br />City Attorney 2% $19,223 $19,607 <br />City Clerk 4% $10,535 $10,956 <br /> <br />The recommended adjustments will maintain salaries above the market median. When <br />developing these recommendations, the Personnel Sub-committee also considered the <br />fact that the current salary survey methodology, as outlined in the Executive <br />7.3.D. - Page 1
