Streets Committee - Oral report by Councilman Ruskin (209, 701) <br /> '----' Councilman Ruskin advised that the Council Streets Committee had met and had <br /> established the Broadway Sidewalks Improvement Project as its top priority. Councilman <br /> Ruskin added that the Committee plan was two fold: to complete the project as quickly as <br /> possible without sacrificing quality. The project would include the replacement of all old <br /> tiles, dealing with the planters and sidewalk furniture, and comprehensively repairing and <br /> replacing all of the broken sidewalks. Councilman Ruskin said "simultaneously, we plan <br /> to ask for community input, taking into account the needs and concerns of the community, <br /> targeting three groups:" Broadway property owners and tenants, members of the <br /> community who use the downtown for events, and the general community. <br /> Councilman Ruskin named the other members of the Streets Committee: Councilmen <br /> Claire and Leipzig, Community Development Director Nelson, Engineering Manager <br /> Patterson, Senior Project Manager Lynch, Engineer Buck, Streets Supervisor Mann, <br /> Redevelopment Director Church and Redevelopment Specialist Cady. Councilman <br /> Ruskin advised that tlJe current budget was $1.8 million, Tom Bottomley of FTB <br /> Architects had been hired as the design architect, previous studies would be utilized but <br /> new design options would be included, described the proposed timetable including public <br /> input and Council input and approval, and added that if everything went smoothly <br /> construction could begin in September of this year.
