7.3.C. - Page 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> July 27, 2015 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Resolution amending the City of Redwood City's classification and salary plan <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Adopt a resolution amending the City's classification and salary plan to establish the <br /> classifications of Communication and Marketing Multimedia Analyst, and Environmental <br /> Initiatives Coordinator. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In support of the City's Strategic Plan, Human Resources and Department staff work <br /> together to identify organizational changes to more effectively deliver the City's core <br /> services. When organizational changes are identified, amendments to the City's <br /> Classification and Salary plan are recommended in support of these changes. Staff <br /> identified the need to create two new classifications to meet the ongoing and expanding <br /> needs within the City's Communications programs and Environmental Initiatives. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> On June 22, 2015, City Council approved funding in the fiscal year 2015 -16 budget to <br /> create regular full -time positions to support the areas of Council's Community Building <br /> and Communications Initiative, as well as the City's Government Operations Initiative, <br /> specifically furthering our environmental goals. Staff developed job specifications to <br /> accurately capture the scope and qualifications for each position. The recommended <br /> salary range for each position is based on the results of salary surveys of comparable <br /> classifications within a group of benchmark cities in the Bay Area. In addition, <br /> consideration was given to the internal alignment of salaries to similar level positions <br /> within the organization. The City met and conferred with the Redwood City Management <br /> Employees Association (RCMEA), and the proposed classifications and salaries have <br /> been reviewed and approved by RCMEA, and will be included in the RCMEA bargaining <br /> unit.
