7.3.C. - Page 2 comprehensive information to the community, the Public Communications Manager serves as a resource and consultant to the City Manager, Council, and City departments in developing and maintaining a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy. In recent years, the City has expanded its communications and marketing efforts to include interactive, web -based technologies along with traditional communication and engagement methods. To meet the critical and emerging needs in this area, the City has utilized temporary contract staff to assist in launching additional communication through social media, digital newsletter blogs, online forums, and new website content development. The Communication and Multimedia Marketing Analyst classification will ensure the City's ability to maintain full -time expertise to support these efforts. The recommended monthly salary is $6,991 - $8,392, aligned with the current Information Technology Analyst I classification and aligns with comparable classifications within a group of benchmark cities in the Bay Area. Environmental Initiatives Coordinator In 2007, City Council approved funding for additional staffing to oversee the City's climate protection objectives and environmental action plan. The City has retained temporary, contract staff to assist in planning, organizing, and coordinating environmental sustainability programs that support Redwood City's Climate Action Plan and achieve sustainability outcomes. By establishing the Environmental Initiatives Coordinator classification as a permanent, full -time position, the City will ensure its continued ability to retain the expertise necessary to maintain and support growth in this area. The recommended monthly salary is $7,223 - $8,665, aligned with the current Management Analyst I classification. ALTERNATIVES • Council could direct staff to continue using existing contract staff to support in these areas. • Council could direct staff to propose an alternative recommendation for classifications related to these functions. FISCAL IMPACT Funds for both of these classifications have been included in the Council approved fiscal year 2015 -16 budget. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA guidelines, section 125378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable change in the physical environment.
