<br /> Mayor Hartnett prefers interlocking pavers which can provide unity without replacing all <br /> the sidewalks on Broadway. Mayor Hartnett discussed the importance of looking at the <br /> total view of downtown characteristics including safety, maintenance and the least amount <br /> of disruption. <br /> Councilwoman Buchan discussed the importance of moving forward with the least <br /> amount of disruption to the downtown area. <br /> Councilman Ruskin stated that the intent is to remove all the dog biscuit sidewalk <br /> patterns currently in place which will be a minor disruption. <br /> Councilman Claire discussed the importance of having a unifying effect downtown and <br /> prefers the brick pattern pavers. <br /> Councilman Leipzig stated that the extra $50,000 cost to replace the pavers in place is <br /> money well spent in order to provide unity downtown and a good percentage of the <br /> replacement sidewalks are in front of vacant buildings. <br /> MOTION FAILED ON THE FOLLOWING ROLL CALL VOTE: <br /> AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS CLAIRE, LEIPZIG <br /> NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS BUCHAN, HOWARD, LABERGE, RUSKIN <br /> AND HARTNETT <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-095 <br /> MIS: RUSKIN/LABERGE TO ADOPT OPTION #4b AS STATED, ALL BLOCKS <br /> THAT HAVE INTERLOCKING PAVERS NOW BE COMPLETED IN <br /> INTERLOCKING P AVERS AND THAT THOSE BLOCKS BE MODIFIED TO <br /> ENHANCE THE LOOK AND TO UNIFY IT WITH THE OTHER BLOCKS. ALL <br /> BLOCKS WITH NO INTERLOCKING PAVERS CURRENTLY IN THEM OR A <br /> MINIMAL AMOUNT BE PAVED WITH SCORED INTERLOCKING P AVERS <br /> WITH A DESIGN TO BE DECIDED ON AT A LATER DATE AND TO BE <br /> UNIFIED WITH THE OTHER BLOCKS. ALL DOG BISCUIT PAVERS WILL <br /> BE REMOVED.
