Mayor Hartnett provided an update on the proposed Electronic Arts Development <br /> Agreement wherein Electronic Arts is proposing a contribution of $400,000 above and <br /> beyond the fees required by law, to be used for community facilities and to be provided at <br /> the beginning of the development. Mayor Hartnett advised that the Council would decide <br /> how those funds would be used, and expressed support for staff s recommendation of <br /> allocating those funds to the permanent fire station and community center soon to be built <br /> in the Redwood Shores neighborhood. Mayor Hartnett said this proposal was another <br /> example of an extremely responsible corporate citizen who wants to be in Redwood City <br /> and is making a significant commitment to the long term benefit of our community. (100) <br /> MEMO 5/23/96 <br /> C. Councilwoman Buchan announced that the annual Public Safety Day will take place this <br /> year on June 2, 1996 at Fire Station Number 9, 755 Marshall Street. Councilwoman <br /> Buchan invited everyone to attend this very popular and well.attended event, and advised <br /> there will be a "dunking tank." <br /> Councilwoman Buchan announced that on Wednesday, June 5, 6:30 p.m. at the Red <br /> Morton Community Center there will be a graduation ceremony for the first D.AR.E. <br /> class of fifth graders in Redwood City. She invited everyone to attend this great event. <br /> D. Councilman Leipzig, Council representative to the San Mateo County Convention and <br /> Visitors Bureau, advised that the Board of Supervisors was contemplating cutting funding <br /> to the Bureau as well as to the San Mateo Historical Museum. He urged his colleagues to <br /> lobby the Supervisors and encourage them to continue the current funding. <br /> E. Councilwoman La Berge reported on the conference, Transforming Government, she <br /> attended in Long Beach, along with 22 City staff members (mid-managers, frontline <br /> supervisors, and all the members of the City's Continuous Improvement Team.) <br /> Councilwoman La Berge said it was extremely informative and the attendees came back to <br /> the City prepared to put into action what they had learned. She said the most important <br /> feature of all the presentations centered on working collaboratively - Council, staff and <br /> citizens. <br /> F. Vice Mayor Howard reminded her colleagues to sign-up for the Redwood City 2000 <br /> Community Action Team or designate a representative. <br /> Vice Mayor Howard announced that Paul Vega's group Young Latino Leaders will have <br /> its second annual scholarship awards dinner on Friday, May 24, 1996 at Hoover School at <br /> 6:30 p.m..
