will be going in at various hours, the majority of the population will be regular
business hours. Keep in mind that the agreement you are looking at is with Flatirons
Funding. I have one request to make, that in this document that I have, Exhibit G is
missing, which describes Flatirons Funding.....Is there a page or part of the Exhibit G
that I may have before the next meeting on July 15." In summary Mr. AtherIy referred
to a conflict that appeared on page 14, paragraph 8A and paragraph 8E on page 16 and
again on Line 8 subsection 2 on page 17 that had to do with the repayment of fees to
Flatirons Funding from the GID 1-64. Mr. AtherIy said the extra 50 feet on the tallest
building is an imposition on neighbors of Dolphin Park, Heron Court and Hastings
Shores.
Mayor Hartnett said staff would provide the Exhibit G document and answers to Mr.
AtherIy's other concerns.
MEMO 7/3/96
Margaret Nalbach, Benefits Specialist in the Human Resources Department at
Electronic Arts, described her background and qualifications, and supplied additional
information regarding Electronic Arts employees' arrival and departure times at off
peak hours. Ms. Nalbach described how EA encourages flexible hours and public
transit and provides shuttles. She showed overhead transparencies with statistical
analyses supporting the theory that EA employees will not dramatically impact traffic
in that area due to company policies.
Don Saye, 2021 Broadway, spoke in favor of the Electronic Arts project and read the
names of some of his fellow merchants in the downtown who also supported this
development: Bob Bryant of the Courthouse Coffee Shop, Paul Dazey of the City Pub,
Hugo Arenas of the Natural Connections, Joan Jordan of the Art Studio, Amelia
Ramirez of Amelias Pupuseria, Diane Blakely, Jan Starratt and Jane Danbold of the
Secret Staircase Bookshop, John Anagnostou of the Forrester's Hall and the Masonic
Hall, Don and Kathy Winnett of Image Printing and Rob Soulflon of Powerhouse
Gym. Mr. Saye spoke to the issue of the beautiful design of the campus and asked the
Council to please welcome Electronic Arts to Redwood City.
Jay White, 214 Lorna Road, San Carlos, told the Council he has been a pilot flying
out of San Carlos for more than 20 years, and said he agreed with Dr. Cross that the
Council was hearing this issue prematurely. Mr. White said that during the Planning
Commission hearings many concerns had been expressed regarding environmental
problems associated with the EA project. He added "the tall buildings present... a
hazard to persons flying in and out of the airport as well as persons working in the
buildings. The effect of increased automobile traffic, the air quality degradation that
would accompany the automobile traffic, and the compatibility of the tall buildings
with the surrounding neighborhood." Mr. White said one confusing matter is the
FAA's approval.
