how they are quantified. He expressed concerns regarding the cumulative effects of
traffic impacts on Redwood Shores Parkway after build out, stating that there will be 5
intersections with signals in less than 3/4 of a mile. Mr. Slusser asked the Council
Members to determine the cumulative impacts of all the developments through build
out in Redwood Shores before making their decisions.
Pete Hughes, 18 Admiralty Court, told the Council he lived in Redwood Shores and
had no axes to grind. He said he was in favor of the Electronic Arts project. He spoke
about the walks he and his wife take in that area and how it appeared to him that
aircraft safety was not an issue. Mr. Hughes said every time he flies he is putting his
life in the hands of the FAA, and if he can't trust them he has no idea whom he could
possibly trust. Mr. Hughes said Redwood City had the best Planning Commission he
had ever seen, and he hoped the Council would approve its recommendation. Mr.
Hughes said Electronic Arts was perfect for Redwood Shores and Redwood City.
Arlene Bates, 32 Admiralty Place, Redwood City, told the Council she has lived in
Redwood Shores for 18 years and was a long time resident of Redwood City as her
father had a clothing store here. Mrs. Bates expressed concerns regarding the problem
that exists between a small group of people and the people who support the Electronic
Arts project. She said she hoped people would get together and come to a
determination that would benefit everyone. Mrs. Bates said her husband is a pilot and
they have not seen aircraft from San Carlos Airport fly over the Electronic Arts site.
Mrs. Bates said she believed it was time to bring in "some positive attitudes, not
negativity. Mr. Lee said the experts on
the project have said the project is not a hazard to aircraft; Electronic Arts will pay for
part of the traffic mitigations; and if this development is turned down because of traffic
impacts then all new development in Redwood Shores should be canceled, because no
matter where quality developments are constructed, the traffic wiIl feed onto Highway
101. Mr. Lee said the Chamber strongly endorses the Electronic Arts project and
strongly encourages the Council to approve it.
Margie Lemanski, 341 Gunther Lane, in Heron Court, asked how close the first
garage is going to be to her home.
