Mayor Hartnett thanked David for the enormously positive <br /> impacts his programs have had on local school children as weIl as adults and families, and <br /> wished him weIl in his new endeavors. <br /> David Miller thanked the Council, said how much he had enjoyed working for Redwood <br /> City, and expressed hope he would be able to repeat such a wonderful experience in the <br /> future. <br /> ___n__________n______--------------------------------------------------______n______------------------------ <br /> C Presentation of retirement plaque honoring Sharon Tastor for her twenty-two years of <br /> exemplary service to the City and citizens of Redwood City; (207) <br /> Mayor Hartnett presented the plaque to Sharon Tastor, Finance Department <br /> Administrative Assistant, and thanked her "for being an invaluable member of the team." <br /> Sharon Tastor thanked the Council for this special recognition. Presentation of Certificates to "No Tobacco to Minors Program" participants; (207) <br /> Councilwoman Georgi La Berge introduced Karen Licavoli, of the American Lung <br /> Association, who described the San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition and the <br /> Merchant Appreciation ceremony: to encourage merchants not to seIl tobacco products to <br /> minors and honor those who have supported the program. <br /> Ms. Licavoli introduced Iyoti Negi and Jason Hamilton, members of the Youth Business <br /> Task Force, who described their efforts in identifying merchants who did not seIl tobacco <br /> products to minors and other merchants who stopped selling these products after receiving <br /> education materials from the Task Force. They concluded that education was not enough <br /> to deter sales, and suggested: eliminating vending machines, placing all tobacco products <br /> out of reach of all customers, stricter law enforcement and community involvement. <br /> Ms. Licavoli introduced John Lee, President of the Redwood City/San Mateo County <br /> Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Lee and Councilwoman La Berge helped present the <br /> plaques thanking the merchants who participated in the program.
