MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
This item limited to fifteen minutes.
A. Councilman Ruskin expressed his and the Council's outrage at the violence perpetrated
on a little nine year old resident of Redwood City, Bertha Valencia. He asked that the
Council schedule a discussion at the next Council meeting on how to send a statement of
support to Bertha and her family. Councilman Ruskin suggested the Council consider
donating $500 to the family.
MEMO 7/30, 1996
Councilman Leipzig said everyone who heard of this tragedy was outraged, and outraged
at all the violence in our society. He suggested that individuals in the community and
individual Council Members donate to Bertha and her family rather than the Council
donating tax payers' money "so we can feel good." Councilman Leipzig said it made a
L stronger statement if donations were made by individuals.
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 54 JULY 29, 1996
MINUTES Page No. 412 PAGE 9
