<br /> Councilwoman La Berge said she had truly enjoyed her career with the District, <br /> especially watching the impact of a community college experience on the lives of people <br /> who had never dreamed of being able to attend college. She said it been a great privilege <br /> to work with Councilman Claire and former Councilman Greenalch for the San Mateo <br /> County Community College District as well as on the Council. Councilwoman La Berge <br /> advised she was now working part time as a consultant for the District on a special <br /> project, the 75th Anniversary celebration of the College of San Mateo and invited anyone <br /> who had attended the College to contact her for further information on upcoming events. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-212 <br /> B. Proclamation declaring Constitution Week in Redwood City September 17 through 23, <br /> 1996; (207) <br /> Mayor Hartnett read the proclamation declaring Constitution Week and he and <br /> Councilman Claire expressed their strong faith in the principles of fteedom and law the <br /> Constitution embodies. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-213 <br /> C. Award of Financial Reporting Achievement ftom the Government Finance Officers <br /> Association to Redwood City Finance Director Ponty; (207) <br /> Mayor Hartnett presented the Award to Director Ponty and thanked him for continuing <br /> the excellence in financial reporting throughout the years and for insisting on such <br /> rigorous standards that have earned him and the City this outstanding recognition. <br /> Director Ponty thanked the Council, the City Manager and City staff for creating and <br /> maintaining an environment that encouraged achievement of financial reporting <br /> excellence. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-214 <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> A. Keith Bautista, Chairman of the Redwood City Board of Building Review, thanked the <br /> Council for the sacrifices they make of time away ftom their families and the difficult <br /> decisions they make that are always second guessed. Chairman Bautista especially <br /> thanked Mayor Hartnett for being so proactive in City affairs, describing the over twenty <br /> hours, into the early morning on two occasions, the Mayor spent mediating the differences <br /> between the Port and developers of the proposed Pacific Shores project. He thanked the <br /> Mayor for his perseverance, mediation skills, patience, stamina, and professionalism in <br /> striving to make Redwood City a better place to live for everyone. Chairman Bautista <br /> said "I firmly believe that the success that has occurred is a direct indication of the <br /> personal respect you have in the community....
