I . I . .
B. Robert Garber, 101 Acacia Lane, Redwood City, expressed his concerns over increasing
water rates and sewer taxes, and asked Council to consider giving a break to retired
people.
- Mayor Hartnett briefly explained the Council decision several years ago to stop
subsidizing sewer and water services from the General Fund and develop a program
whereby the fees for service would cover the cost of service, and asked the Public Works
Services Department to contact Mr. Garber. (204)
MEMO 9/17/96
C. Ed Bailey, 3215 Page Street, advised that the service station at 895 Woodside Road was
operating in violation of City permits, had caused soil contamination, blocked the adjacent
street and the operators were extremely uncooperative. He described the negative effects
this operation was having on the nursing home he operated next door. (204)
City Manager Everett confirmed Mr. Bailey's charges and advised that the operators had
been issued a citation this day and City staff was working on abatement proceedings with
the City Attorney.
City Attorney Schricker suggested there might be alternative approaches to this matter;
however, the Council might have to authorize the City to take legal action.
Council directed staff to move as quickly as possible in this matter.
MEMO 9/17/96
'--
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------______nn_----------
3.
